Initially trained in Zen Shiatsu, Desiree was introduced to Chapman Reflexes an osteopathic view on lymphatics while studying Ortho Bionomy, this course lead her to a great interest in the lymphatic system. After travelling to the United States to train with Allen Mills at the Centre for Lymphatic Health, Santa Barbara, Desiree began to develop her proficiency in Lymphatic Decongestive Therapy. She has also trained in Manual Lymphatic Drainage with Jill Griffiths from the Weller Institute in Australia and she is currently the only New Zealander who is American trained in this specialised modality. Desiree has since developed training in Lymphatic Enhancement and has been an International Trainer for six years.
Desiree completed her Adult Learning and Teaching at the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, Tauranga, NZ and now runs regular training seminars in both the USA and New Zealand. Desiree was awarded a research fellowship with Flinders University, Adelaide and completed a trial alongside Professor Neil Pillar, into the benefits of the mild frequency vibration to the chest, axilla and arm in patients with clinically diagnosed arm lymphoedema secondary to breast cancer surgery in November 2010. Desiree has been working alongside health professionals to promote this integrative modality which supports both medical and complimentary medicines. Desiree is currently a trustee for the Breast Cancer Support Service Tauranga Trust.
Recently Desiree and John Renna, Acupuncturist originally from America opened the doors to the New Zealand Centre of Integrated Health. John and Desiree’s passion is to develop a Centre that had a collaboration of health care practitioners dedicated to integrating the highest standard of conventional, complementary and alternative medicine, nurturing intrinsic healing in the whole person, body, mind and spirit. The Centre will serve as a model for the new paradigm of patient centered health care dedicated to furthering evidenced based research and education in Integrative Medicine
